L.M. Montgomery writes the stories of Anne Shirley, an orphan girl who is adopted in the town of Avonlea; these books follow her life on Prince Edward Island where she finds a home, learns about God, makes friends, learns social etiquette, cultivates her imagination, falls in love, teaches rambunctious and rowdy school children, and much more!
I really enjoy the movies as well, though since it's only a trilogy, they really jam things together so that the overall story feels rushed. They are still amazing movies though, and the first is very true to the books.
Or you can just get the trilogy together.

"A dream comes when there are many cares, and many words mark the speech of a fool" (Ecclesiastes 5:3).
Anne gets herself into a lot of trouble sometimes, and her wordy, "highfalutin" language often marks her a fool. As she grows, she learns, and comes down to earth a bit. In some ways this verse fits the girl she is when she comes to Green Gables very well!
