Fitting In

According to a version of the Bible called the Christian Bible, 1 Peter 2:9 says "God has not called you to fit in." I agree. But that can't be all the verse says.

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light" (NIV).

Aha! That's the problem with shortened versions. You don't get the whole picture. This verse basically says that God has not called us to fit in. But it also says that we are chosen by God into a "royal priesthood." We are called to be priests of The King. We are called from darkness into His light so that we may declare His praises for His glory.

We aren't meant to fit in with the world, because we are not of the world. We are called to be God's people, and to serve Him. Because we belong to God, we cannot fit in with the world, and the world doesn't want us if we don't fit in.

"If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you" (John 15:19).
