Generational Curses

This was mentioned in church a few weeks ago, and I immediately wondered: "What are generational curses?"

Of course, I wanted to do a blog post about it.

Numbers 14:18 - 'The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation."

2 Chronicles 25:4 - Yet he did not put their children to death, but acted in accordance with what is written in the Law, in the Book of Moses, where the Lord commanded: 'Parents shall not be put to death for their children, nor children be put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.'

Was there ever an instance of God cursing a family line for generations?

I couldn't find it. I know there have been instances of God blessing a family line for generations (Abraham).

It seems that in the old days, a family line could be cursed, but God revoked that, and declared it wouldn't be done anymore (Ezekiel 18).

So, I'm not really sure why it was mentioned in church. It doesn't seem like something that would be done anymore, since Jesus died for our sins, and we are not responsible for our own sacrifices or those of our family.

If I missed an instance of a generational curse, please let me know!
