Language

I am learning two new languages for various reasons. It occurred to me today that this is a really good idea. Learning a second (or third) language can really open up new possibilities. Not only can it give an advantage in the work force, but it offers the chance to meet people you wouldn't otherwise communicate with.

What an amazing opportunity to talk about God. How cool would it be to begin learning a new language, visit the country of origin, and go to a local church and begin to talk to and worship with people in a whole new language? How many people could we meet who love God as much as we do?

Who knows? Along the way you could find your calling.

I guess today's post is to promote learning a secondary language. It really could open up a whole new world.

Even if learning a second language isn't for you, take care to use your language wisely. You don't have to have "proper grammar," but use wise words.

"Again, if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle? So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air. Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning. If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker is a foreigner to me. So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church" (1 Corinthians 14:8-12).

It then goes on to talk about speaking in tongues, which is not the same thing as studying to learn a new language.
