Words matter. The words we use matter. The words we use to describe ourselves matter, even just in fun. We have to be careful of the words we associate with ourselves, and what we answer to.
Diva is an old Italian word for goddess. It has other definitions too. "Prima donna." "Divine (one)" (Dictionary.com). It also has lots of negative connotations. I don't think it's a word Christian women should want to use to describe themselves.
We are meant to be humble. We can excel in what we do, and even outshine others, but we can't keep the glory. It belongs to God. Someone who is a true diva can't put God first because she thinks first of herself. Divas also have "attitude." By society's standards that is okay, if sometimes not nice. By God's standards, it isn't okay. We aren't meant to exalt ourselves above others. We aren't meant to have "attitude." We are meant to humble ourselves, be compassionate, and serve others, as Christ did.
Just a thought for today.
