Good morning, everyone!
Today I read Deuteronomy 5-7.
So far, Deuteronomy has been filled with reminders for all that God has done for His people so far and His laws.
In today's reading, the Israelites got a reminder of the Ten Commandments, and a reminder that they should reverence God because He brought them out of Egypt, where they were slaves, and because they heard His voice and lived to tell about it.
Now, before I get to the connection I want to make today, take a minute to think about that last part.
Moses saw God's form and lived, but God had to cover his face as He passed so that Moses wouldn't see Him face-to-face.
The Israelites have heard the voice of their God and lived to tell about it.
How awesome is that?
God loves His people enough to let them (us) hear His voice.
And we won't die from it!
Take a minute to let that soak in.
How powerful is God that His voice alone could kill someone who heard it?
How magnificent that seeing all of His glory would be too much for us?
Wow. Just wow.
I can't even fathom all the glory of God. I can't even imagine all of His power. The depth of His love is often too much to grasp.
But He does love us. More than we will ever understand.
Which leads me to the point I wanted to make today: freedom from slavery.
This is a common theme throughout the Bible.
God frees His people from slavery. Literal and figurative.
He freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.
And through His sacrifice, Jesus, God's only Son, freed us from slavery to sin. All we have to do is believe that He died to save us, ask Him to forgive us for sinning, and invite Him into our hearts and lives as our Lord and Savior.
That's all that's required to be saved.
After that, we read our Bibles, God's Word, and learn about His goodness, mercy, love, and how He wants us to live. We then obey His commandments because we love Him and He loves us.
It's not always easy, but it's always worth it. Because without God, life sucks. You can have everything the world can offer, and it will never be enough. Even if it brings happiness for a time, it will never bring true joy.
That can only be found in Jesus.
I hope you'll join me tomorrow when I read Deuteronomy 8-10!
God bless you.
